What is a Squarespace audit?

A Squarespace audit is a structured, evidence-based review of your live site by a senior Squarespace specialist. We look at the things your internal team usually cannot see from the inside: how the site is built, how it performs on real devices, how accessible it is, how Google reads it, and how visitors actually move through it.

You get an objective second opinion from a Circle Platinum Partner and Authorised Trainer with more than 18,000 hours inside the Squarespace platform. No upsell pressure, no jargon for jargon's sake, just clear findings and a roadmap of fixes your team can act on. Whether you take the report and run with it internally, hand it to another agency, or ask us to deliver the work, the recommendations are yours to keep.

What we audit

Every Audit and Review covers six core areas. We score each one, evidence each finding with screenshots and references, and rank issues by impact and effort so your team knows exactly where to start.

  • Design and brand application: layout consistency, visual hierarchy, spacing, type system, image quality and how well the site expresses your brand guidelines on Squarespace 7.1.

  • Code, performance: custom CSS, JavaScript, Code Injection, third party scripts, image and font loading, and Squarespace-specific speed wins.

  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA): keyboard navigation, colour contrast, alt text, semantic structure, screen reader behaviour and the platform settings that affect them.

  • SEO and discoverability: on-page SEO, metadata, heading structure, URL architecture, schema, sitemaps, indexability and content gaps for the keywords that matter to your business.

  • Conversion and UX: navigation, calls to action, form usability, mobile experience, content clarity and friction across your key user journeys.

What you receive

You receive a complete written audit, a video walk-through and a live call with the senior auditor. Every Audit and Review includes:

  • A written audit report (PDF) with an executive summary, full findings by category and supporting screenshots.

  • A recorded video walk-through of the live site that talks through the findings in plain English, so your wider team can watch it back without needing to read the full report.

  • A 30-minute live walk-through call with the senior auditor to answer questions and agree priorities.

  • A prioritised action plan split into quick wins, medium-term fixes and strategic recommendations, each estimated for time and business impact.

  • A clear view of which items your in-house team can handle, which need a Squarespace specialist, and which sit outside our remit.

Who a Squarespace audit is for

A Squarespace Audit and Review is designed for organisations with a live Squarespace 7.1 site and a real reason to look under the bonnet. We are typically commissioned when:

  • You have inherited a site from a previous agency or in-house designer and need an honest assessment of what you own.

  • You are planning a redesign, replatform or migration and want a baseline before you invest.

  • Traffic, rankings or conversion have dropped and you need to understand why.

  • You have legal or procurement requirements around accessibility, particularly in the public sector, healthcare, education, finance and charity sectors.

  • You are preparing for a funding round, an acquisition, a rebrand or a senior leadership change and the website needs to stand up to scrutiny.

  • Your internal team is capable but wants a senior second opinion before committing budget to changes.

How the process works

We run Squarespace audits in three structured stages, typically over two to three weeks depending on the size and complexity of your site.

Stage 1: Briefing. A scoping call to understand your business goals, internal context, brand guidelines, target audience and any specific concerns. We agree the scope and confirm Squarespace contributor access at the level we need.

Stage 2: Audit. A senior member of the Made by Dave team reviews your site against our six-point framework using a combination of automated tooling and manual testing on real devices. We document every finding with evidence and build the prioritised action list.

Stage 3: Delivery. We send the written report and the recorded video walk-through ahead of our live call, so your team can review the findings on their own time. The live call then covers the priorities and the recommended next steps. We follow up in writing with any clarifications your team needs.

Why Made by Dave

Audits are only useful when the people writing them know the platform inside out. Made by Dave is a Squarespace Circle Platinum Partner, Marketplace Expert and Authorised Trainer with more than 18,000 Squarespace hours and 650+ builds delivered since 2014. We sit inside the Squarespace community, beta test new features and know what is coming next on the platform.

Our recommendations are grounded in what Squarespace 7.1 can and cannot do, not generic web design advice. We will not suggest fixes that break the editor for your content team, and we will not gold-plate findings to sell you a redesign you do not need. If the answer is "your site is in good shape, here are five small wins", that is what the report will say.

All work is delivered in-house by the Made by Dave team. We are based in the UK and work remotely with clients internationally. We are ICO-registered (registration number ZB357255), which matters if you are in a regulated sector or your procurement team needs evidence of data protection compliance before commissioning work.

Pricing and timelines

Audit pricing is fixed per site and depends on page count, complexity and the depth of code review required. Most Audit and Review projects run between two and three weeks from kick-off to live call. Send us a link to your site with a short brief, and we will respond with a fixed-price quote, a proposed scope and a delivery date.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most Audit and Review projects take two to three weeks from briefing to live call. Larger sites with heavy custom code, multi-language setups or e-commerce can take up to four weeks.

  • We audit Squarespace 7.1 sites by default. We can review 7.0 sites, but in almost every case the recommendation is to rebuild on 7.1, and we will say that upfront rather than charge for a full audit you cannot fully act on.

  • Yes. Many clients use the audit as a roadmap and then commission us to deliver the fixes, either as a defined project, through our Designer for a Day service, or via a monthly retained support arrangement. There is no obligation. You are free to take the report to your internal team or another agency.

  • We offer a free, automated accessibility audit as a starting point. The paid Audit and Review goes far beyond accessibility and includes manual review, code analysis, SEO, performance, UX and platform best practice, all carried out by a senior member of the team.

  • A senior Squarespace designer from the Made by Dave team. All work is delivered in-house.

  • Administrator access to your Squarespace site, plus read access to Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console where available. We will send a short access checklist after the briefing call.

  • If you are planning a migration to Squarespace from WordPress, Wix, Webflow or another platform, we can run a pre-migration audit of the existing site and produce a Squarespace 7.1 build plan instead. Get in touch and we will scope it.
