How to active safe mode and disable / turn off scripts in edit mode - Squarespace 7.1

There are times when you need to view your Squarespace site in "safe mode." This involves disabling all scripts, such as HTML and JavaScript in code and embed blocks, so you can see where these elements are placed without their executed effects.

This feature is especially useful for developers working on larger, code-intensive sites, allowing for a clearer view of the layout and script locations that might be harder to detect otherwise. Though an advanced tool, it’s invaluable for complex projects.

In Squarespace, safe mode disables all scripts running on a website when previewing it.

How to activate Safe Mode?

If your editor URL looks like this:

  1. example-site-title.squarespace.com/config

  2. Then add /safe to the end

  3. So it becomes -> example-site-title.squarespace.com/config/safe

  4. Press “Enter”

  5. You are now in “Safe Mode”

Once you are in “Safe Mode” then:

  1. Review the code that was causing the problem

  2. Delete or update it

How to exit “Safe Mode”?

  1. A bar will appear at the bottom of your page

  2. Press “Enable Scripts in Preview”

  3. “Safe Mode” has now been turned off
